The Gandhigram Rural Institute Distance Education

The Gandhigram Rural Institute Distance Education was established in the year 1956. It was established by the two close disciples of Mahatma Gandhi – Dr.T.S.Soundaram and Dr.G.Ramachandran. It aims to transform ‘Nai Talim’ a concept given by Gandhi Ji into social action. It is a private university situated in Chinnalapatti, Tamil Nadu. It is approved by the University Grant Commission (UGC).
Since its inception, the university is trying to integrate teaching, research, and extension in all its programs. Based on its continuous dedicated performance in the field of the rural development and academic excellence, the University Grants Commission (UGC) conferred the Deemed University status to GRI in 1976.
The institute is also known for its quality education provided through various courses under distance education mode. The Distance Education Centre DEC, Gandhigram Rural Institute was established in January 2003.
All the courses in the distance mode, provided by the university are approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC).
