NID 2021 DAT Exam, Eligibility, Admission: The National Institute of Design (NID) is established under the aegis of the Central Govt and is recognized as an “Institute of National Importance” by the Central Government in 2014. NIDs are the leading institutes and go-to destination for students keen on developing their creative faculties as well as engage in cutting-edge research and development that is at the forefront of technological and artistic innovation.

The NID was established in 1967, and since then has increased to six campuses all over India including Ahmedabad, Vijaywada, Bengaluru, Kurukshetra & Gandhinagar. The admissions process for NID is highly competitive and with limited seats per design course, only the best of the best are accepted to the program.

NID DAT Exam 2021 Admission Process:

The NID Admission 2021 process requires aspirants to take the Design Aptitude Test or the DAT. 

The DAT is made up of two exams – the Preliminary or Prelim Exam and the Mains Exam. The Prelim Exam is meant to test candidates on their overall design capabilities including their ability to conceptualize, visualize and comprehend design as well as their knowledge and creativity.

The Mains Exam for UG Candidates will further test their technical skills in different mediums of model creation, sketching, drawing, etc.

For PG Candidates in the Main Exam, they will be subjected to a Studio Test followed by a Personal Interview in their chosen field of specialization Selection.

NID 2021 DAT Exam Programs:

NID currently offers a massive range of both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs.

Fundamentally, NID offers four types of programs i.e. Bachelor of Design or a B.Des., a Master of Design or M.Des., a Graduate Diploma also is known as the Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD), and finally a Ph. D in Design.

The B.Des. and M.Des. courses, however, within themselves offer an impressive variety of possible Majors/Specializations such as Graphic Design, Animation Film, Exhibition Design, Product Design, Ceramic & Glass Design, Textiles, Digital Game Design and many more.

Nevertheless, the availability of the seats for each of the specializations is specific to particular NID Campuses only.

NID 2021 DAT Exam Eligibility:

The requirements for the NID Admission 2021 process are particular to the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Program or Diploma Programme for which the application is being made.

For UG aspirants, particular maximum and minimum age restrictions apply. General Category candidates cannot be older than 20 years of age on 30th June 2021. Similarly for SC/ST/OBC-NCL Category students, the maximum age is 23 years and 25 years for PWD Students.

PG Candidates from the General Category cannot be over 30 years of age as of 30th June 2021. SC/ST/OBC-NCL Candidates cannot be older than 33 and PwD Candidates cannot be over the age of 35 on the same date.

UG Candidates only need to prove they have passed or are appearing in the 12th Board or Equivalent Exams. 

Interestingly enough, PG Aspirants from ANY background of specialization are welcome to apply so long as the undergraduate program was longer than 4 years.

FAQS:

Q.What is the difference between the weightage of the Prelims and Main Exams of the DAT?

Ans. The Prelim Exam is given a 30% weightage, the Main Exam is given a 70% weightage since it is more rigorous in its difficulty.


Q.What are the eligibility requirements for the GDPD Course? Are they different from the B.Des? requirements?

Ans. The requirements for the GDPD are the same as the Bachelor of Design criteria since the GDPD is a Diploma Programme.


Q.What are the application fees for the B.Des? & M.Des. Exams?

Ans. For General Category Students the fee is Rs. 2000 while for all Reserved Category Students the application fee is Rs. 1000.
