Universities and institutions have been warned by the University Grants Commission (UGC) against partnering with Ed-Tech companies to offer online and distance learning courses. According to the UGC, there is no franchise agreement according to the norms.
AICTE and UGC have advised parents and students to check the details of the program on their official websites before enrolling in a course.

In any franchise arrangement, the HEI is not permitted to propose an online or ODL program. HEIs may be accused of offering courses that are against the norm if students complain to the authority.

UGC expressed its anger over Edtech companies advertising online and ODL programs through newspapers, television, and social media in association with universities and institutions approved by UGC.
UGC will take legal action against EdTechs [ E – learning Brand ] and HEIs for engaging in such a franchise arrangement. Before applying for admission, candidates and parents are advised to read the details of the program.
Through the release, the ministry has warned parents, candidates, and stakeholders to be cautious.
